$29.95 Ceramic Pocket Knife

$29.95 FLINT Pocket (FP-1) A ceramic bladed folding knife for everyday use. This extremely lightweight ceramic knife has a liner lock and stainless steel frame. Great gentlemens ceramic pocket knife. The black ceramic 1 1/2” blade is ground to an extremely sharp edge that will last ten times that of a stainless steel edge. With a neck lanyard this would make a great utility ceramic knife for fishing. Super sharp and completely rustproof. Boker or Kyocera are the only other sources that I have found for ceramic pocket knifes and I feel that my designs for folding ceramic knives offer an affordable alternative.

“It took over a year in the design and process development of these ceramic folding knives and with sales starting in 2007 customer feedback has been very supportive. Protecting the ceramic blade from chipping during storage is truly important and the major reason for my efforts to produce cost effective ceramic pocket knives.

Hopefully some customers will provide feedback concerning their favorite uses of these ceramic pocket knives. Personally I find myself cutting open a lot of cardboard cartons & cutting plastic strapping. The black ceramic blades in these pocket knives certainly cut strong fishing line well. I did break the tip off one ceramic blade (stupid) trying to pry loose a fuse in my car. Ceramic blades are not for use as levers!

Small Ceramic Knife

Black Ceramic Blade

$42.95 Folding Utility Ceramic Knife

Flint Utility (FU-1) A general purpose sized ceramic folding knife suitable for general outdoor activities. A 2.88" black ceramic blade suits the majority of tasks. Weight has been kept to a minimum by using a cut out stainless steel frame & simple but very positive liner lock! Weight oz. A bit large for a ceramic pocket knife but light enough to be used this way. I have found this size of ceramic pocket knife to work well in the field.

Photographs can be misleading. This ceramic folding knife is MUCH MUCH MUCH LARGER than the ceramic bladed pocket knife! Not too large to carry in a pocket, although the clip should be very handy. The lanyard ring on the folding ceramic knife was added with fishermen in mind. You may note that there are no "Studs" installed in the blades. You do need to use both hands to open the blade.
These first ceramic pocket knives were designed for simplicity and one handed operation was not considered important.

$49.95 Rigger’s Ceramic Knife

It appears that sailors in particular require a one hand opening knife. A ceramic folding knife has particular appeal due to the need to cut some lines containing “Kevlar” and other really tough materials. This knife design uses a reverse tanto point to reduce the possibility of an accidental deep wound on a tossing vessel. Using a white ceramic blade on this knife serves to keep costs a bit lower AND does satisfy sailor’s penchant for wearing white costumes. This ceramic pocketknife again has a blade length of just under 3” to satisfy most regulations about concealed knives. Folded it measures 3 ¾” and has a handle width of only 3/8”.

One Handed Knife

EOD Knife
$22.95 EOD or Electrician’s Knife

I have been supplying a number of military and police organizations with the folding knives for use in EOD operations. Ceramic Bladed Knives have the advantage of being non-conductive and non-magnetic. However, since the handles are 400 stainless steel there is a slight magnetic field present. To resolve this problem AND still provide blade protection I have sourced some knives with 3” blades and non-magnetic handles. The plastic blade protective sheath prevents accidental damage to the blades AND against accidental injury while carried in an EOD tool kit.

Of course these ceramic knives with blade protector would make a great special use kitchen knife as well. Hard to keep my own wife from putting ceramic knives in the dishwasher or throwing in drawer with other utensils.

$8.95 DIAMOND SHARPENING HONE

YES you can bring back an edge even if you have some chips. Not nearly as easy as you can a steel blade BUT this 600 grit diamond encrusted steel credit card sharpener does give you a reasonable working edge. See “SHARPENING page.

Diamond Hone

CERAMIC FOLDING KNIFE
Black Ceramic Pocket Knife Blade or White Blade? OK, there some increased hardness in a black ceramic knife blade but in reality the white blade is already so hard that this increase makes very little difference in terms of the ability to retain an edge. The only real reason, in my opinion, to purchase a black ceramic folding pocket knife is one of appearance. It just feels strange using a knife with a white blade that you can almost see through. The black blade on a ceramic pocket knife gives a much more traditional appearance & darn it, just plain looks better! The black blades are however, more expensive to produce, as they have to go through a secondary Hot Isostatic Process where pressure and extremely high temperatures physically change the blade from white to black and increase density & hardness.

AIRPORT SECURITY
Airport Security and Ceramic Knife Airport and other security detection devices have difficulty in detecting plastic or ceramic materials. For this reason we have made sure that the body of these ceramic pocket knives contain a high percentage of stainless steel to ensure detection by existing security scanners. While not, as yet regulated, we feel it is important to offer this security feature and if regulations are every put in place your ceramic folding knife should pass any reasonable rulings.

CERAMIC POCKET KNIFE DESIGN
I would appreciate feedback (comments) concerning the designs I have created for these ceramic pocket knives. Obviously a niche market but I feel that the ceramic blades are particularly suited for small ceramic pocket knife application. The folding action protects the black ceramic blades from damage and these two sizes of ceramic pocket knives do, in my mind, cover the majority of requirements. The ability to retain sharpness means the ceramic pocket knife will be ready to cut whenever required! YES, you can improve the edge and maintain it using a 600 grit diamond hone and ultra fine silicone carbide wet/dry sanding paper. Please read the SHARPENING page.
